Danny Webb’s side ran out 5-0 winners against Sholing at the Matchroom Stadium, with goals coming from Charles Clayden, Sam Dalby, Ruel Sotiriou and a Jaedon Phillips double.
“It is pleasing to be in the Third Round,” Perkins told leytonorient.com.
“We didn’t play anywhere near our best, but sometimes that is just how it goes and we are pleased to have won.”
Webb had spoken pre-match about the importance of getting the early goal, but it took 37 minutes for the deadlock to be broken and Perkins praised the side for remaining focused during the opening period.
“The first goal is absolutely massive in any game, and especially last night. It was a tight first half but that opening goal settled us following a tight start.
“Obviously when it doesn’t come in the first 20 minutes or so, you can’t panic and you have to keep doing what you’re doing and I felt the boys kept their concentration well.”
The O’s added four goals in the second half through Dalby, Sotiriou and a brace from substitute Phillips to complete an emphatic victory and seal a trip to West Bromwich Albion in the Third Round.
“It is exciting to know that we will have an opportunity to test ourselves against a Premier League side and play at the Hawthorns,” added Perkins.
“It’s what we have earned, we’ve played well throughout the campaign and hopefully we can continue that into the next round”.
The O’s also extended their impressive record of not conceding a goal throughout the FA Youth Cup campaign with a fourth clean sheet yesterday, and Perkins praised the side’s defensive performance.
“It’s a record we’re very proud of, but we still haven’t played as well as we can. We’ve still got that next level in us and hopefully we can produce that at West Brom.”
Perkins also highlighted the importance of chemistry between the defence, listing their positive relationship as a key attribute for the defensive success the side have had in the competition.
“We’ve played together for enough time so we know what’s going on, we know how we defend and we’ve built that relationship. We have to defend as a unit and it seems to be working.”
Details of the O’s FA Youth Cup Third Round trip to West Bromwich Albion will be announced in due course.
