Laurie Cunningham statue unveiling

Members of Laurie’s family were in attendance along with former teammates, supporters and representatives from Orient and Kick It Out to see the unveiling of the statue which stands at approximately 2.2m tall.

A true pioneer, Laurie made his debut for Orient in 1974 before going on to represent West Bromwich Albion and Spanish giants Real Madrid, as well as becoming one of the first black players to play for the England senior team.

Sadly, Laurie’s life was cut far too short when, aged 33, he died in a car accident in Spain in 1989, but his legacy continues to inspire us all.
