The reverse fixture ended in a 2-0 loss for the O’s earlier this season, but a Ruel Sotiriou brace was enough to ensure victory for Danny Webb’s boys.
The O’s made three changes from their last league outing as Arthur Janata returned to the side along with Ruel Sotiriou, whilst under-16 Lawrence Hammond made his first appearance for the Youth Team.
The first chance registered on goal for the O’s came through Ruel Sotiriou who powered through the Northampton defence to go one-on-one with the Northampton goalkeeper. However, Sotiriou could only drag his effort wide of the target.
A minute later however Sotiriou controlled the ball in the air and struck the ball on the turn and beat the ‘keeper with a smart finish giving the O’s the lead.
Arthur Janata kept the O’s in the game when he pulled off a brilliant diving save after a Northampton midfielder launched a shot on goal from 30-yards out.
Sotiriou looked to add a second to his tally when he lost his markers just outside the box but the strikers effort rolled inches wide of the post.
Shortly after the break, youngster Lawrence Hammond was replaced by Amin Benyoucef who returned after being sidelined through an ankle injury.
With the O’s only leading by the one goal, Northampton looked to grab a goal back, but excellent goalkeeping from Janata again denied the hosts from distance.
The O’s notched a second through Sotiriou after he buried home a long goal kick from Janata at the second time of asking.
Orient remained comfortable throughout the closing stage, and defended their lead well in order to secure all three points.
Next up for the U18s is an FA Youth Cup Third Round tie at Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion tomorrow night, with information here.
