We’ll be hosting an anniversary dinner, here at the club on Sunday 25th March and tickets for this event are now on sale.
The O’s played seven games in the cup that year, with three of the ties going to replays. And there are some truly legendary names in that team, starting with none other than Peter Kitchen, who scored seven goals on the way to Stamford Bridge including the winner in the Chelsea replay and he will be among the guests on the night.
Apart from the aforementioned Kitch, we’ve had confirmation from such legendary names as Phil Hoadley and Bill Roffey, both of whom will be fondly remembered by O’s fans, as well as record appearance holder Peter Allen who played in that wonderful replay win over Chelsea.
In addition, we will be joined by former central defender Nigel Gray, who spent nine years here throughout the seventies & eighties, Peter Bennett, who made over 200 appearances before an ankle injury ended his career, and Glenn Roeder who won caps for England B in a career that took him from Brisbane Road to QPR, Newcastle and Watford.
And if that wasn’t enough, Bobby Fisher – one of the small group of players to have made 300 appearances for the O’s – is coming, as well as Derek Clarke who played alongside Bobby in the semi-final.
There’s still a handful of players to track down, but we are confident that we’ll have at least nine or ten in attendance and it is sure to be an evening that fans will not want to miss.
O’s Head of Commerical Steve Dixon said “The 1978 FA Cup run is a fond memory for many Orient fans, and we’re delighted to be able to welcome so many of that famous O’s team to Brisbane Road to celebrate the achievement in what should be an excellent evening”.
It’s the 40th anniversary of a great period for the club and tickets are £40 each. Please drop Steve Dixon a line at [email protected] or call 020 8926 1006 to reserve your tickets.
