A brace from Macauley Bonne followed by a late second-half Josh Koroma volley sealed the win for the O’s on Canvey Island.
Justin Edinburgh’s men travelled to Canvey Island to take on Concord Rangers on Saturday afternoon, Alex Lawless made his first start of pre-season alongside Charlie Lee in central midfield. Forward James Alabi partnered Macauley Bonne up front the first-time in an O’s shirt.
Concord got the game underway at the Aspect Arena and took the lead after two minutes through Billy Knott. The skipper collected the ball on the left wing advanced forward and found the back of the net with a dipping effort from range.
Orient almost responded to going a goal down from the restart through James Alabi and then through Alex Lawless, before Macauley Bonne’s near post header dropped inches wide of the post inside ten minutes.
However it was the hosts struck next and doubled their lead in the 13th minute when Nana Boakye-Yiadom headed home from a corner after he ran free inside the box.
Two minutes shy of the hour mark, Bonne cut inside on to his right foot and unleashed a low, powerful effort that whistled by the wrong side of the post as Orient looked to get back in to the game.
A minute later, an excellent one-two between James Brophy and Bonne saw the latter burst in to the box and smartly finish passed Sam Beasant in the Concord net to make the score 2-1.
Charlie Lee had the perfect chance to draw the game level after 40 minutes, when Lawless’ header dropped in behind the Concord defence but the skippers nod wasn’t powerful enough to go beyond Beasant.
Sam Sargeant was the only change for the O’s at the break before the visitors got the second-half underway.
After a cagey start to the second 45, Bonne notched his and Orient’s second after a Myles Judd cross deflected off Concord defender Aron Pollock in to the path of Bonne who finished from a yard out.
Bonne could’ve had his third after Brophy raced on to Lee’s hook and squared it to Bonne who saw his effort blocked at the second time of asking.
Concord sub Matt Neary appeared to be through on goal after a loose pass in behind the defence set the forward free until Marvin Ekpiteta raced back to make a clean challenge on the ball.
Newly introduced Josh Koroma made it three for the O’s as the side completed the come-back. Lee’s long throw makes it to the far post where Koroma was present to volley home as the game drew to a close.
