Here are the five things we learned…
1. Pretty in Pink
It was the first chance for the O’s to wear the pink third kit and what a way to introduce it! Five goals, a hattrick and a new Club record – can we wear pink every week?! The O’s now have the highest goals tally in the league, with 27 from 13 matches, while also maintaining the third best defensive record having only conceded 9 goals in 13.
2. England C boys do it!
Marvin Ekpiteta and Josh Koroma received their call-ups to the England C squad for the game against Estonia U23 yesterday and celebrated by both notching their third goals of the season. Ekpiteta put the O’s 2-1 up just before half-time with an effort on the turn, while Koroma lifted the ball over Killip in the 57th minute to extend the lead to 3-1.
3. Good behaviour
The booking of Macauley Bonne in the 34th minute took his total for the season to three, the same amount of defenders Josh Coulson, Marvin Ekpiteta and Joe Widdowson combined. Considering they are three players who are constantly making challenges, this highlights how well they are timing them at the moment!
4. Away is the new home
The O’s away form recently has been sublime, with eight goals scored in the last two away games and , but yesterday was notable for the large attendance from the O’s faithful. While the official O’s turnout was 1,334 – 51% of the 2,574 crowd – we sense the total was actually higher! Our hosts Braintree’s previous highest turnout was 807 so yesterday’s crowd was an increase of 218%, a great turnout from both sides!
5. History Makers
This Orient team became history makers yesterday when they broke the record for the Club’s longest ever unbeaten start to the season, beating the previous record of 12 matches from 2013/14. A win or draw on Saturday will equal the record for the Club’s longest unbeaten run, set in 2010/11.
