The O’s progressed to the Third qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup after deafting Romford 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Striker Jaedon Phillips scored the equaliser at The Breyer Group Stadium, after he curled a delightful effort with his left foot home, from just inside the area.

The 17 – year old spoke of his delight to have scored on the senior team’s turf.

‘’It felt great, even though I could of put more away, it was a good feeling. We were 1-0 down, to get the equalising goal to get the team back into the game that felt good.’’

Last season the U18’s cup run saw them travel to The Hawthorns as Orient’s lost to West Bromwich Albion.  Phillips wants his team to emulate last season and build upon on Tuesday’s win.

‘’We feel great, recently we haven’t had the best run of games. We’ve been losing quite a lot, but tonight we’ve got the win and we want to keep progressing through the rounds and form a winning streak that we deserve to have.’’

The squad have endured a tough start to the season, struggling to pick up results in the league but Phillips hopes things can now turn around. This Saturday Orient host Luton, and will look to utilise the confidence gained from victory.

‘’Now we’ve had this win, it will probably enable us to get better in the league. We’ve got the confidence, everyone is together and we’ve got a couple of injured players coming back as well.’’

Phillips used to play predominately out wide, but late into last season he switched to striker. Since the switch, Phillips says he is happier in his new role. Like every good striker, goals motivate are his motive.

‘’I prefer being the forward, the striker. Where I played tonight. I get more goals, I can make more runs and oppurtunities.’’

Despite the thrill of scoring in E10, Jaedon shows no intent on slowing down and spoke of his own targets for this season.

“My personal aim is to make my professional debut by the end of the year and secure a pro contract by the end of the year.’’

If you’d like to see the U18’s in action, head to the Whitbread Sports Ground this Saturday. The side side host Luton Town, with KO scheduled for 10:30am. The postcode is IG8 7NJ and can be reached by heading to Roding Valley on the central line.
