A single Macauley Bonne strike pulled the O’s level in the second half after Josh Hare’s opener put the hosts ahead in the first.
Craig Clay got the game underway for the O’s after a minute silence was impeccably observed by all at the Silverlake Stadium.
Orient thought they were ahead after eight minutes when Marvin Ekpiteta flicked on Charlie Lee’s long throw but Josh Koroma was in an offside position at the back post when he nodded home.
Leyton Orient set-pieces proved dangerous for Eastleigh to handle early on, Jobi McAnuff sent a whipped corner into the box where it met Lee’s head but it was cleared off the line by an Eastleigh defender before being gathered by ‘keeper Max Stryjek.
Completely against the run of possession, Eastleigh took the lead with their first attempt on goal when Josh Hare rose highest and powered the ball beyond Dean Brill with his head.
Within seconds of the restart, Danny Hollands headed wide of the net by inches following a corner from the left.
The hosts went close after an hour when goal-scorer Hare found captain Hollands in the box but the midfielder couldn’t direct the ball goal-wards as Brill watched his effort bounce wide.
Orient came close to a response moments later, Craig Clay’s first-time whipped cross missed the boot of Bonne by inches in the centre of the box.
The response the O’s were looking for came in the next attack, Myles Judd’s drilled cross was tapped beyond Stryjek by Bonne to pull his side level after 65 minutes.
Bonne could’ve easily had another within a minute, this time his header from Dayton’s cross was just too high.
After Matt Harrold’s header was cleared for a corner, Bonne met with the set-piece at the near post but saw his header clawed off the line by Stryjek as only 6 minutes remained.
Neither team could unlock the defence to find a winner as the points were shared in Hampshire.
