Marvin Ekpiteta’s 73rd minute strike earned the O’s the win at The Breyer Group Stadium.

Head Coach Justin Edinburgh made one change to the side the defeated Barrow AFC on Tuesday night. Jamie Turley came in for Josh Coulson in a straight swap.

Orient started well and forced a corner through Joe Widdowson within the first minute of the game. Skipper Jobi McAnuff swung the ball in, under the nose of Rob Lainton before it dropped to Craig Clay inches from goal but he fired no more than a whisker wide of the target.

The O’s were on the attack again moments later, Widdowson found Jordan Maguire-Drew in space, the midfielder lost his man and attempted to pick out the run of Sam Ling but the defender couldn’t reach the ball before it left play.

The game had settled after 20 minutes as both teams probed for an opener, Wrexham almost found one through Ben Tollitt who battled well with Marvin Ekpiteta before he fired wide of the net.

It was the O’s who had the next chance on goal when Jay Simpson showed wonderful skill to beat his two markers and find Maguire-Drew in space who hit a first-time volley at goal but Lainton had it covered as it flew the woodwork.

Jamie Turley connected with the end of McAnuff’s wide free-kick but couldn’t get enough contact on the ball to prevent it from looping over the crossbar.

Two minutes before the break a great chance for the O’s went begging, Simpson again showed excellent skill to beat his markers and find Sam Ling in a more advanced position, the full-back whipped a cross into the head of Bonne who nodded beyond the far post.

We got the second-half underway and the first chance fell to the O’s. Dan Happe’s magnificent switched ball dropped perfectly for Ling to take in his stride, his touch took the ball towards Lainton who made himself wide enough to block the chance.

We were certainly on top in the early stages of the second-half. Newly introduced James Brophy embarked on a half long run but watched his cross evade all in red inside the danger zone.

The constant pressure paid off with just 20 minutes left, Ekpiteta popped up inside the box to strike just inside the post, Lainton’s hand wasn’t strong enough to deny the defender.

There were a couple of nervy moments in the final 10 minutes but the O’s were excellent value for their points and their spot at the top of the National League table.
