Orient were due to face Enfield Town Ladies at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on Sunday; however, the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Chris Brayford’s side sit fifth in South East Division One with 25 points having won seven, drawn four and lost six of their 17 league games.

Their last outing ended in a 1-1 draw away to Ipswich Town Ladies on 3rd March. Sophie Le Marchand cancelled out Paige Wakefield’s opener with her third goal in as many games.

With five league matches to play, Orient will be looking to equal or better their fourth place finish last year in only their second season at National League level.

Our Opponents

AFC Wimbledon Ladies occupy sixth place in the league table, just one place and three points behind the O’s.

They have played 16 matches, one less than Orient, with a record of six wins, four draws and six defeats.

The Dons travelled to Denham United Ladies on Sunday afternoon where the sides took a share of the points after a goalless draw.

Wimbledon can move level on points with Orient should they come away with a victory on Wednesday evening.

Key Players

Orient winger Sophie Le Marchand has scored in each of her previous three matches, while striker Suaila Cardoso Queni has netted in two of her last four games. The pair will be looking to continue their good form in front of goal as the O’s attempt to jump back into the top four.

Wimbledon staged a dramatic late win over second-placed Billericay Town on 3rd March. Megan Kowalski scored first for the Dons, before Hannah Baptiste netted the winner three minutes from time. They will no doubt be looking to add to those personal tallies against Orient this week.

A Look at the Stats

  • Orient are looking to go five games unbeaten in all competitions.
  • The O’s have found the net in each of their previous five matches.
  • However, they have gone five league games without a clean sheet.
  • Wimbledon have taken four points from 15 available in the league during 2019.
  • The Dons have scored in two of their five matches since the turn of the year.
  • However, they are unbeaten in their last two league games.

Previous Encounters

Orient welcomed AFC Wimbledon to Mile End Stadium on the 3rd October 2018 where they twice came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Jess Trimnell’s first-half opener was cancelled out by Hayley Barton two minutes into the second. Rebecca Sargent restored the Dons’ lead before Lisa Holmback levelled once more.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Ahead of the match, skipper Danielle Griffiths acknowledged Orient’s progression since the reverse fixture:

“In our previous meeting, we came back twice to draw 2-2. Although we showed great character to do so, we know we are capable of performing to a higher level as we have shown in recent weeks. We intend to carry that through to another game under the lights on Wednesday.”
