Crohn’s & Colitis UK, East London Network, were guests of the club at the recent game versus Maidstone United, with lead volunteer Laura Zappulla and her team in and around the ground, spreading awareness and collecting contributions for this very worthwhile charity.

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, affecting more than 300,000 people in the UK and 1 in 4 newly diagnosed are under the age of 16.

The Fans For Diversity Hub, situated under the East stand, was once again the hosting venue and some of those suffering along with family and friends were also invited to be the pre-match flag bearers and half-time penalty takers on the day.

Laura commented afterwards: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you for today! Despite the cold and rain and last-minute cancellations from several people, everyone that did make it had an absolute fantastic time! Thanks to the pre-match flag parade, half time penalty shots and the awesome write up in your programme, we raised lots of awareness for the charity as well as a very pleasing amount of money through the bucket collection! The total count was £415.15 so really, thank you to those most generous supporters.

“The hospitality received from everyone at Leyton Orient was incredible, and we cannot thank you enough for welcoming us and allowing us to take part in such a brilliant day”.

Here are a few quotes from some of the attendees:

“What am amazing day! I had so much fun! And so pleased we raised £415.15 – thanks guys!”

“Absolutely great fun day. I travelled home with my guests. Both the children and adults loved it; they were very complimentary. Very well organised. This was a credit to the charity, volunteers and staff at the event. Brilliant day.”

“Such a fun day! We collected an amazing amount for our charity and had lots of fun in the process! Thank you everyone, and a special thank you to Howard and everyone at Leyton Orient for having us, keeping us warm in the HUB, inviting us to take part in the pre-match flag parade and half time penalty shootout against Theo (the kids loved it!), and to cheer on the O’s who we were very pleased to see to a 3-0 victory over Maidstone United!!!”
