Wright came through the ranks at Charlton Athletic but featured just three times for the South London side. Whilst at The Valley, the midfielder spent time on loan at Barnet, Brentford, and Gillingham.

The now 29-year old then moved to Glanford Park and featured 71 times for Scunthorpe United in the Championship over a two-year period.

In 2011, Wright signed for Millwall and racked up 53 appearances across four seasons at The Den. During his time at the Club, he made two separate loan moves to E10 before a short term permanent deal was agreed. The first was in November 2013, but the move was cut short when he was recalled by his parent club due to an injury crisis.

The second move to Orient was another loan deal which started in October 2014, with the Club opting to make the move permanent in January 2015 on a short term contract.

Following his departure from the O’s, Wright signed for Gillingham and was made captain at the start of his second season at the club by then manager Justin Edinburgh, scoring 14 goals in all competitions.

He was also named the club’s player of the season and players’ player of the season in April 2017 but departed the Kent club to move to Essex side Southend United.

Wright spent a season at The Shrimpers and scored two goals in 26 appearances across all competitions.

Bradford City was the next stop for the midfielder, who was again, appointed captain upon arrival by former O’s player Michael Collins.

After a year in West Yorkshire, Wright departed having made 22 appearances in all competitions for The Bantams before Justin Edinburgh earlier agreed a two-year deal to move Wright back to East London.
