Ross Embleton’s men overcame Hornchurch FC by a single goal in the latest pre-season friendly at Bridge Avenue.

Lee Angol picked out the top corner after capitalising on a Hornchurch mistake shortly after the hour mark.

The first meaningful chance fell for the hosts after five minutes, Daniel Uchechi broke into Sam Sargeant’s box and but fortunately for the O’s he fired wide of the target.

Matt Harrold looked to strike first for Orient after 15 minutes but his headed effort from James Brophy’s corner was off target.

Chris Dickenson of Hornchurch showed great skill to turn on the edge of the box but again fired wide of Sargeant’s net.

Jordan Maguire-Drew cut on to his favoured left foot and fired a vicious shot at goal but Hornchurch ‘keeper Joe Wright was equal to the effort and made the save.

Harrold headed at goal from close range following a deep cross but Wright was there again, with the save to deny our forward brilliantly.

With only ten minutes of the half remaining, Jayden Sweeney connected with a deep Maguire-Drew cross and forced Wright in to a save as the O’s went in search of an opener.

The last chance of the first 45 dropped to Marvin Ekpiteta at the back post but his effort was agonisingly wide and the sides were goalless at the break.

The O’s returned from the break unchanged and remained that way until the hour mark. Embleton made 10 changes including an outing for ‘keeper Arthur Janata and young Deago Dunbar-Bonnie.

Lee Angol made his mark on the game after just five minutes when he pounced upon a Hornchurch mistake to calmly curl the ball beyond the ‘keeper for the opener.

Angol went close again, soon after.  Conor Wilkinson broke forward and unselfishly squared to his partner who struck the woodwork.

The final change of the half came with just over ten minutes remaining, Brendon Shabani was sent on in place of Josh Wright.

Orient saw the remaining minutes out comfortably for their second pre-season victory this term.
