Recently signed professionals, Brendon Shabani & Hector Kyprianou, joined around 50 young people participating in the Leyton Orient Trust Football Camp on Wednesday 21 August 2019.
The football camp, which is part of the free Waltham Forest Summer holiday activity programme, sees local youngsters take part in football games and skills sessions led by Leyton Orient Trust coaches at the SCORE Centre in Leyton.
The young people first had the chance to ask the players questions – including what position they play in, how many goals they scored last season, what it’s like to be play for Orient as well as Internationally (Albania and Greece respectively) and what it takes to become a professional footballer. Afterwards the players joined in with a crossbar challenge and a penalty shoot-out against the young goalkeepers. And as recent Champions, the players also brought with them National League Trophy for the young people to see up-close.
Howard Gould, Community Liaison Officer, said afterwards, “I was really pleased with the attitude and commitment of both players as this was their debut in the community, both just having signed professional contracts in July, but they were confident and answered the questions really well. It’s important that the player’s, especially the younger guys, commit to their community appearances with enthusiasm, as their effort really does leave a positive impression of the Club with those they meet”.
