O’s Head Coach, Carl Fletcher, has hailed tomorrow’s Trophy tie against Brighton & Hove Albion U21’s as an “opportunity for some of the players who haven’t played lots of minutes since I came in”.

The O’s boss is looking forward to a period of four home games in a row, beginning with two cup games this week and was keen to see progress from his side when speaking following Saturday’s game against Morecambe.

“Two good games, Brighton on Wednesday and obviously the FA Cup on Sunday. We’re looking forward to it, two home games so hopefully we can go there and keep progressing and improving.”

The O’s  named an unchanged Starting XI for Saturday’s trip and Fletcher is looking forward to using the opportunity to take a look at players who may not have featured much since he was appointed Head Coach just two weeks ago.

“We’ll [assess squad selection] when it comes. We’ll take a look on Monday and see where we’re at squad-wise, it is a busy period for us and we’ll assess it when we go into the game. I think it maybe an opportunity for some of the players who haven’t played lots of minutes since I came in so we can assess the squad fully.”

Defender Jamie Turley could be considered for his first minutes of the season , having overcome a lengthy recovery from a groin injury that troubled him in the latter stages of last season.

“We’ll look for Turls to get some minutes, definitely on Wednesday. He’s been back training now for a couple of weeks and the next step is to play some games so it might be a good opportunity for him to get some minutes under his belt.”

However, he has ruled out appearances from defender Sam Ling and midfielder Jobi McAnuff as they continue their recoveries from injury.

“I think [it will be too early for Sam Ling and Jobi McAnuff], they’ll be another few weeks yet. I think it is important we get them fully into training and fully involved before they get in the game situation.”
