Last Time Out
Orient’s title hopes suffered a blow in their last game as they lost out 3-0 to Cambridge United at the Premier Plus Stadium in St Neots.
Kelley Blanchflower broke the deadlock for the U’s right on the stroke of half time, and as the O’s searched for a way back in the affair, they conceded a further two goals in the second half, condemning them to only their second league defeat of the season.
After almost a month off, Chris Brayford’s side will be hoping they can put that poor performance behind them and get their league campaign back on track, starting with this weekend’s trip to Cambridge City.
Cambridge City currently occupy 11th place in the WNL Division One South East, with just one win in their ten games played so far.
That one victory came back in September when they defeated Norwich City 4-3 away from home. Since then however, aside from a couple of wins in cup competitions, it’s been mostly a season to forget for the Lilywhites and they’ll be hoping a new year can help turn around their fortunes.
Megan Tonks is her sides top scorer this season with an impressive record of seven goals in nine appearances and she’ll certainly be someone the O’s defence will have to keep an eye on this Sunday.
The two sides last met on the opening day of the season at the Mile End Stadium. Orient ran out convincing 5-1 winners that day, thanks to goals from Hayley Barton, Egle Trezzi, Sophie Le Marchand, Danielle Griffiths and Belen Ripoll Douton.
Prior to that league fixture earlier on in the season, the two sides did actually clash last season as well despite not featuring in the same division. Unfortunately for Orient they ended up on the losing side of a frantic cup tie, which saw Cambridge City progress with a 5-4 win.
Coming to the Game?
The match takes place this Sunday January 12th at Ely City FC, CB6 2SH. Kick off is scheduled for 2pm.
