The Club is deeply saddened to learn the news that Club legend Sid Bishop has passed away.

Sid was one of Orient’s all time legendary players, and clocked up 323 senior appearances for The O’s – joining as groundstaff in June 1952, before turning professional six months later.

He was a skilful centre back who played in the Division 3 South Championship side of 1955/56 and was an ever present in the O’s greatest ever team that won promotion to the First Division in 1961/62 – playing in all 49 games.

Sid spent thirteen years with the O’s until he took up the role of player-manager at Southern League Hastings United in 1965

The Supporters Club maintained close contact with Sid over the years presenting him with an inscribed decanter for his 70th birthday and gifts of his favourite whisky on subsequent birthdays.

Sid will be deeply missed by all of The O’s family, and we’d like to extend our sympathies to Sid’s loved ones at this difficult time.
