The O’s pre-season campaign continued in Northampton Town, where a well-taken goal for the hosts was the difference in a tight encounter.

Head Coach Ross Embleton made several changes from his side that started against Spurs U23 midweek, with in-form Lee Angol keeping his place.

After an even start to proceedings, The O’s first chance came as a deep corner fell to Dan Happe – but the centre-back nodded it just past the post.

Soon after, Northampton took the lead, as forward Sam Hoskins broke the deadlock with a tidy volley giving Lawrence Vigouroux no chance.

The O’s weren’t to be passengers, however, and shortly after Lee Angol rattled the crossbar with a fantastic free-kick, inches away from an equaliser.

Then came perhaps The O’s most frustrating moment, as what looked to be a clear penalty shout was denied, when Ouss Cisse was bundled to the floor inside the six-yard box.

The midfielder was close to firing home before the challenge, but the referee waved play on – leaving The O’s trailing at the interval.

HALF TIME: Northampton Town 1-0 Leyton Orient

The second half saw The O’s emerge with a renewed energy, combining well in attack.

James Dayton willingness to run created plenty of space, allowing Sotiriou to fire an attempt at the keeper from outside the box.

On the hour mark, James Brophy was introduced for Sotiriou, and was quick to get himself involved – fizzing an effort which clipped off of the outside of the post.

This put a spring in the step of Orient, with Brophy, Angol and Wilkinson looking to find a breakthrough.

Brophy’s cutback to Angol inside the box looked as if it would be the moment, but some resolute defending from The Cobblers denied him a fourth goal of pre-season.

With five minutes to go Lawrence Vigouroux showed his great shot-stopping ability, denying Johnson’s close range header from sneaking in.

With ten players completing 90 minutes, the afternoon was another step closer to match fitness for Ross Embleton’s side.

Orient’s next pre-season fixture is Wednesday 26th July, when we welcome West Ham U23’s to the Breyer Group Stadium.

The game will not be live streamed, however more information will follow in due course with regards to how you can listen in.
