Academy player Antony Papadopoulos made a start in The O’s midfield, whilst fellow academy player Brian Ifeanyi would take the field in the second half.
The Hammers U23’s side came out of the traps fastest, and soon took the lead through as Mesaque Dju latched onto a defensive error, and calmly fired home.
Soon after, the visitors had a second, when Dan Kemp stood up to take a free-kick after McAnuff had fouled the West Ham man.
His free-kick was sublime, and nestled in off of the inside of the post, giving Sam Sargeant no chance in the Orient goal.
The O’s grew into the game after this, and came close to dragging one back as Sotiriou fired an effort goalwards, but saw it blocked.
As half-time approached, however, The O’s gave themselves a mountain to climb, as Sam Ling turned a lively cross into his own net, making it 0-3 to the visitors.
The O’s made widespread changes after the break, with all outfield players making way – and the in-form Lee Angol taking the central role upfront.
His pace and close control, combined with the lively Conor Wilkinson on the right-hand side, cause problems for West Ham, and the game started to turn.
Both Wilkinson and Angol came close with chances, before the latter eventually added to his impressive pre-season tally.
A long ball forward deceived the Hammers backline, and Angol did well to hold off his man and face up the keeper – finishing calmly to pull one back.
Academy player Ifeanyi did well with quick footwork to win a free-kick, with Coulson heading agonisingly wide from Dayton’s delivery.
Soon after, Conor Wilkinson burst in from the right hand side and forced an effort goalwards, with Trott palming it onto the crossbar and behind.
The whistle came after a much improved second half, and with League One Gillingham up next in pre-season comes a chance for The O’s impress.
