PREVIEW: Exeter City (H)

access_time 1 month ago

League football is back at the Breyer Group Stadium, as Orient take on Exeter City. Kick-off is scheduled for 3pm.

Both sides come into the game looking for their first win of the season as Exeter City drew with Bradford, while Orient also picked up a point away at Salford City.

The O’s are likely to be without the creative Paul Smyth, after Manager Kenny Jackett confirmed he wanted to give him ‘as long as he could.’ There was some good news too, with the Orient Gaffer confirming new striker Harry Smith could feature.

Elsewhere, Adam Thompson returned to full-training this week, but having spent a long time out – this match could be too soon for him.

The Grecians

The Grecians will be looking to finally achieve promotion out of League Two this season having lost three Play-Off Finals in the last five seasons. This is Exeter’s tenth season in League Two after relegation from League One in 2012.

Matty Taylor enters his fourth season as Exeter boss having guided them to the 2020 Play-Off Final and two mid-table finishes. Taylor will be looking to lead his side back into the Play-Offs this season, having missed out last season by three points.

Key Player

Matt Jay enjoyed his most prolific season last term, scoring 18 goals in League Two for Exeter City. The 25-year-old has played 130 games for the Grecians, scoring 34 goals. Matt Taylor appointed Jay the new club captain earlier this summer.

Jay picked up the player of the month award for March 2021 having scored 5 goals including a hat-trick against the O’s at St. James Park.
