An interview with our very own Jephte Tanga

Can you just tell us a little bit about your footballing background and when you joined Leyton Orient?

“So, I started playing football when I was about 9 or 10, so I started pretty late. I started through primary school and one of my teachers spotted that I was really good, so they suggested that I should join a team. From there I just went on. After primary school I went to Sunday league and I was there for a couple of years, going on trials here and there. But I joined Leyton Orient at under-16, which is at the end of under-15, now I’m 17 in the youth team.”

What position do you play, and what made you want to play there?

“I can play everywhere, but my preferred position is right wing or right wing back. My speed as well allows me to play that position.”

If you had to compare yourself to a player in your position that best resembles your playing style, who would it be and why?

“I would say Tariq Lamptey, because he is small just like me and he can get up the pitch and defend as well.”

What would you say is your best attribute?

“My best attribute is getting at my opponents or one vs ones, just creating stuff in the penalty box.”

Do you have any goals that you want to achieve with your time at Leyton Orient?

“Yeah 100%, I would like to be involved with the first team a bit more. Hopefully one day I can make my league debut for the first team.”

What football team do you support? And who’s your favourite player?

“I support Chelsea, and my favourite player is Eden Hazard.”

What is your favourite food?

“It’s pretty traditional, so I’ll say Jollof rice. Yeah, it’s really nice.”

What sort of music do you listen to?

“I listen to all types of music but the standout one would be old school RnB”

What is your favourite song to listen to before a game?

“Before a game I would probably say some Dave, I would probably listen to some AJ Tracey as well, so those two. I like Dave’s new album, one of his songs called Twenty To One. I can’t remember the name but there is one standout one, it’s my favourite one. Oh yeah It’s called Verdansk.”

What were your first pair of football boots?

“My first pair of football boots I think were F90s. Torres used to wear them so I remembered them, they were green and white.”

Who inspired you as a young player?

“I would say my dad, because my dad used to play back home so when he came, I saw him play – and I thought why not get involved, and after that I just fell in love with the game.”

Lastly, good luck for the QPR game tonight, how are you feeling ahead of this game?

“I’m pretty excited, hopefully I get to come on and show what I can do and impress the manager.”
