PREVIEW: Mansfield Town (H)

access_time 3 weeks ago

Orient look to continue their good run of form and extend a four-game unbeaten league run against Mansfield Town at The Breyer Group Stadium on Saturday.

Dan Happe is expected to be available after suffering from a back problem last time out. Paul Smyth and Adam Thompson remain unavailable.

Mansfield Town come into this season after finishing 16th in League Two last term. Nigel Clough took over at The One Call Stadium in November 2020 and this is his first full season with The Stags with the club having the aim of getting promoted to League One.

Clough brought in defender Elliott Hewitt from Grimsby Town, signed midfielder Stephen Quinn from his former club Burton Albion following a successful loan spell, striker Rhys Oates from Hartlepool United and Orient’s top scorer last season Danny Johnson to strengthen his squad.

Following a successful start to the season winning their opening two games, The Stags’ form has declined with last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Rochdale ending a run of four straight defeats which has left the club currently sitting 20th in the table.

The Stags will be relying on last season’s top scorer Jordan Bowery to find the net and secure Mansfield’s first win since early August. Bowery has enjoyed life at Field Mill since he joined from MK Dons last summer. The 30-year-old provided ten goals and five assists in his debut campaign for the Stags.

Another key performer for Mansfield is 24-year-old, George Lapslie. The midfielder impressed the Mansfield faithful after initially joining on loan from Charlton Athletic in October last year. His loan move became permanent in January. He went on to finish the season with eight goals and three assists.

Kenny Jackett gives his thoughts on Orient’s recent form including last weekend’s away win at Bristol Rovers as well as looking forward to Saturdays clash against Mansfield Town.
