Late Tuesday evening saw Orient put on a fine display at The Breyer Group Stadium seeing the team put in a dominant 6-1 win against Newport County in the FA Youth Cup. Orient’s goals came from U16 Smith-Kouassi x2, Nkrumah x3 and Clements, with Newport’s only goal of the game coming from Evans.
It only took two minutes for the O’s to find their first goal. A great run from Tanga as he drove through the middle of the pitch before playing a ball into the path of Smith-Kouassi, he shot low beating the keeper at his near post. A well taken shot considering it was his first effort on goal in the game.
The next goal from Orient came 10 minutes later, a great diagonal switch from Charlie Pegrum was plucked out the air by Tanga. Clever footwork from Tanga saw him go on the outside of his defender before playing a low driven cross, falling to the feet of Smith-Kouassi who took a touch before shooting low into the bottom left corner.
Orient were really starting to have a swagger about them as a good threaded ball from Kwatchey was taken beautifully by Smith-Kouassi who knocked the ball on first time into the path of Nkrumah. He rides off one challenge shifts the ball to his left foot to beat his next man and shoots low and hard into the ground seeing the ball go straight through the keeper’s legs and into the back of the net.
This concluded the end of the first half which saw a dominant display from Orient as they head into the break three goals up.
The young O’s didn’t slow down after the break as they found a goal three minutes after the restart. An unfortunate mistake from Newport’s keeper saw Nkrumah apply pressure nicking the ball back and seeing the ball trickle over the line making it 4-0.
Captain Nkrumah who recently signed his pro contract completed his first hattrick, as a good ball from Clements saw Nkrumah take a touch before unleashing a low shot into the bottom right corner.
Not long after, a good throw-in from Charlie Pegrum on the left hand-side saw the ball bounce ahead of Clements who volleyed the ball into the back of the net.
Newport County found their goal in the 74th minute which saw Evans shoot from range beating Phillips on his left side. A consolation goal, but Orient will be annoyed they couldn’t keep the clean sheet.
This concluded the game which saw Orient putting on a fine attacking display. Orient will now
take on Chelsea in the next round of the FA Youth Cup.
