Interview of our very own Sean Campbell

Can you just tell us a little bit about your footballing background and when you joined Leyton Orient?

“I started playing football in secondary school, I started playing for a grass root side, I was there for about around a year. I had trials at Fulham and Millwall, got signed by Millwall and was there for another two years and I left at the start of the U16s and signed for Orient and I’ve been here since.”

What position do you play, and what made you want to play there?

“I’m a goalkeeper and I’ve always been attracted to goalkeepers when I was young watching them make saves on TV. It used to be really magical, and it was always something I wanted to do.”

If you had to compare yourself to a player in your position that best resembles your playing style, who would it be and why?

“Andre Onana, were both quite powerful, I’m also confident on the football not as good as he is, but yeah I’m confident on the football I back myself. My ability to play as well.”

What would you say is your best attribute?

“I would say my resilience, I’ve been through a lot especially this last year and to just keep going, keep pushing, I think that’s a really strong attribute.”

Do you have any goals that you want to achieve with your time at Leyton Orient?

“To get a pro contract obviously, but if not here somewhere else but just to be able to get a pro contract that’s what everyone aspires for in football. I think a more immediate one would be to just get game time because it’s something I haven’t got in the last year and a bit. It would be good to get a good run of games in.”

What were your first pair of football boots?

“I can remember what they were called, but they were a pair of Umbro boots. They were really old Umbro boots. They were white, blue and red. They were alright, they lasted me a while, they are probably my longest lasting football boots.”

What football team do you support? And who’s your favourite player?

“Manchester United and David De Gea.”

What is your favourite food?

“I would say Jollof rice.”

What sort of music do you listen to?

“I listen to everything, French, afrobeats, RnB, Hip Hop, rap anything.”

What is your favourite song to listen to before a game?

“I’ve got two ‘Dreams’ by The Game and ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ by Meek Mill.”

Who inspires you as a young person?

“My dad, he’s been there for everything so far, so anything I can do to repay his confidence in me.”

What’s your all-time favourite TV show and film?

“Best TV show is Grey’s Anatomy, it’s like a doctor show and it’s really good. Best film I will have to go for Rush Hour 3.”
