PRE-SEASON: Tottenham Hotspur XI 4-0 Leyton Orient

O's lose out against Premier League opposition

12 July 2017

The O’s started their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 defeat against a Tottenham Hotspur XI earlier today.

Two goals in either half secured victory for the hosts in a behind-closed-doors at Hotspur Way, with new Orient signings David Mooney, Joe Widdowson, Charlie Lee, Jake Caprice and Alex Lawless all getting run outs.

Following a close opening period, it was Spurs who made the breakthrough with full-back Kyle Walker-Peters starting and finishing an attack with a strike from inside the area on the 11th minute.

The hosts enjoyed the majority of possession for much of the half, but with just over 30 minutes on the clock Tristan Abrahams almost forced an equaliser with a curling shot from outside the area which was well held by Michel Vorm with Mooney ready to pounce.

Despite the opportunity, it was Spurs who threatened next and managed to double their advantage nine minutes before half time when Georges-Kevin Nkoudou wriggled his way into the box and arrowed a low shot beyond the reach of Charlie Grainger to find the bottom far corner.

Half time saw the O’s field a completely different side for the second half, and following an encouraging opening few minutes created a great chance when defender Aron Pollock drove forward with the ball and played a neat one-two before seeing his left-footed effort from the edge of the box held by Vorm.

As the half wore on Spurs regained control of the tie, and Shayon Harrison almost added a third with a close-range flick which was clawed off the line by Myles Judd.

With 71 minutes on the clock however the hosts were able to add a third through Jaden Brown who controlled well in the area before rifling a shot into the roof of the net.

Spurs then claimed their fourth of the day three minutes later, with Will Miller combining well on the edge of the box before calming slotting beyond Sam Sargeant.

With just over five minutes remaining Sargeant produced a strong save to push an Nkoudou shot behind for a corner, and the forward then spurned another chance in the closing minutes in what proved to be the final piece of action.

Next up for the O’s is a trip to Harlow Town on Saturday, July 15.
