U18 REPORT: Luton Town 5-2 Leyton Orient

O's lose out to clinical Hatters

22 January 2018

The O’s youngsters were defeated 5-2 at Luton Town on Saturday morning.

Andrew Camilo-Tayaca and an own goal got the two for the O’s but it wasn’t enough to overcome The Hatters.

The reverse fixture ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat at the beginning of the season back in August.

Luton Town got the game underway but it was the O’s who took the lead early on through full-back Andrew Camilo-Tayaca who chipped The Hatters ‘keeper from distance within the first five minutes of play.

The lead didn’t last long however, a Luton midfielder picked up the ball 25-yards away from goal and lashed a shot in to the top corner of the net to level the scores after 12 minutes of play.

The hosts added a second midway through the first half when a deeply swung corner to the back post was tapped in by an unmarked Luton man.

Ten minutes of the first half remained when Mason Hall’s header at the back post from a corner flew just inches over the bar as the O’s continued to search for an equaliser.

Orient efforts paid off a minute later, when Charles Clayden’s forceful run towards the by-line inside the box allowed the winger to drill a low cross in to the box where it took a deflection off a Luton man and rolled in to the net.

The half time whistle was imminent when Luton Town took the lead through a goal almost identical to their first. A long-range effort from distance looped over Amdeu to see the two sides enter the break at 3-2.

Early on in the second half, Jaedon Phillips tried his luck from range after he found space 20-yards from goal and curled an attempt towards the far post, but The Hatters’ ‘keeper had the shot covered.

The hosts stretched their lead to four after a nice one-two move led to the striker bursting through on goal before poking past the advancing Amedu in the O’s net.

The final goal came when a cross to the forward at the near post was hammered in to the roof of the net from very close range to see the battle end 5-2.
