Maidstone United 2 - 1 Leyton Orient XIMaidstone United 2 - 1 Leyton Orient XI
A YOUTHFUL Orient side were beaten 2-1 by Maidstone United at the Gallagher Stadium on Wednesday night.
A crowd of over 1,400 were at Maidstone's new stadium to witness the match, which saw Affy Obafemi cancel out Paul Booth's opener only for the Stones to seal it with a header from Nicky Humphrey before the break.
Having beaten a QPR XI just over 24 hours before, Orient fielded a young side at Maidstone, with only Leon McSweeney, Marc Laird, Moses Odubajo and Billy Lobjoit from the senior squad featuring.
Maidstone took the lead for the first time early on, as Booth's header bounced down and into the roof of the net following a cross from the right in the third minute.
Orient were level 11 minutes later as Obafemi took advantage of a dreadful backpass to knock home, but the hosts edged in front again 12 minutes before the interval.
Again a cross from the right hand side provided the opportunity as Humphrey glanced a well-directed header beyond Jon Miles in the O's goal.
The O's had a great chance to equalise for a second time 20 minutes after the restart when Obafemi was fouled inside the box but, having picked himself up to take the spot kick, the O's striker rolled his effort wide of the left hand post.
The east Londoners stepped up their intensity as they searched for a share of a spoils late on, but a second goal was not forthcoming and Maidstone were able to take victory.
