MOONEY: 'It's My Best Run'

27 December 2012

Striker delighted with form as O's head into New Year

IN-FORM O's striker David Mooney has described his recent run as the best of his Brisbane Road career.

Since heading the Londoners into the lead at Gloucester City back at the start of November, Mooney has notched seven goals in eight games.

Fellow striker Kevin Lisbie has also been in red-hot form with eight of his own over that time and the Irishman is loving the partnership they have forged.

“It is the best form I’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Mooney. “Obviously it helps when you’ve got a settled team because you can get that understanding and relationship with a partner. Kev’s been great, and all the boys across the middle have been supplying us. Long may it continue.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing as part of a two up front, obviously in different games you take on different roles, but at the minute he’s given myself and Lis that bit of freedom to just go out and express ourselves.

“Kev gives us that bit of experience and he holds the ball well too. At the minute he’s got that knack of getting in the box at the right time and nicking a goal too, which is great.

“We’ve got a good understanding and a good relationship, but when Brunty plays and when Symesy plays it’s the same, regardless of who out of the four is playing.”

Orient hope to return to action on Saturday when they take on Walsall and following back-to-back postponements, Mooney is backing the O's to return to form.

He added: “If we could have stretched it out for one or two more games it would have put us in an unbelievable position. It wasn’t meant to be, but we’ve got a chance to regroup now, maybe get our feet back on the ground and kick on.

“After a defeat the most important thing is to try and not lose the next game. Hopefully we can do that and we’re still in a good position. If you’d offered us 31 points, the semi-final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the third round of the FA Cup, we’d have bitten your hand off, so for us to be in that position coming into the New Year all bodes well for the second half of the season."
