SLADE: 'I Don't Question The Mentality'

21 December 2012

O's boss sure team has what it takes to bounce back from defeat at County

RUSSELL SLADE is backing his team to respond well to the unusual feeling of defeat when they travel to Notts County on Saturday.

The O's saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end against Scunthorpe United last Saturday and Slade wants to make sure that was just a blip.

"It could be a different kind of test, as we haven't had to react to a defeat for a while," the O's boss said. "I don't question the mentality of my players though, the attitude will be there and they want to do well.

"You can't win every single game as last weekend proved, but we want to do something about it.

"The important thing in any sport is when you suffer a defeat that you bounce back. That shows a character and that's what we'll be looking to show on Saturday."

Slade coached at Notts County earlier in his career and is expecting a tough test against the promotion-chasers, although their home form hasn't been as good as their away record this term.

He continued: "They have a terrific squad on paper and are only six points off the top of the league. It's going to be a tough game - they've done exceptionally well away from home, and at home the record has not been quite as good.

"It promises to be an interesting game, they'll certainly go forward, they always do and are positive in the way they tackle each and every game."

Slade faces a couple of injury worries for the Meadow Lane clash, with Kevin Lisbie and Gary Sawyer both nursing minor problems and they will undergo late fitness tests.

Slade added: "There's a hamstring problem with Symes, and Lis and Gary Sawyer are doubts for the weekend. We'll wait and see and give them every chance."
