SLADE: 'We Were Under Par'

15 December 2012

Manager disappointed after winning run comes to an end against Scunthorpe

RUSSELL SLADE conceded that his side's performance wasn't up to scratch as their eight-game winning run came to an end against Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

Scunthorpe scored three goals after the break to register a 3-1 victory and Slade didn't feel the O's deserved anything from the game,

"It wasn't our day and arguably we didn't deserve anything out of the game," he said.

"We came up against a stubborn Scunthorpe side that did a job on us. It was a very tight game, one that we felt we might have to grind right to the last few moments.

"It didn't go our way, we conceded the first goal and I think that was crucial.

"We've highlighted the fact that the three goals we've conceded today were very poor from our point of view."

Orient briefly had hope 11 minutes from time when Kevin Lisbie's penalty pulled the scoreline back to 2-1, but a quickfire Scunthorpe third killed the hosts off and that frustrated the boss.

He continued: "We looked like we had the possibility to dig ourselves of a hole when we got ourselves back to 2-1 down.

"But we didn't hold on to that scoreline for long enough because there was still plenty of time to maybe go on and get a second."

Orient now have a clear week before heading to Notts County and the boss says they need to bounce back.

"We haven't performed as well as we would have liked today and we have to bounce back," he added. "We were under par, it's as simple as that.

"We've got a week to get over any knocks and bruises we've got and we'll still go to Notts County in confident mood."
