STATS: Player v Player Walsall

31 December 2012

How did Martin Rowlands fare against Adam Chambers?

Head to Head: Martin Rowlands vs Adam Chambers

Two midfielders with higher-level experience faced off as Walsall visited Brisbane Road. Adam Chambers is well known to Orient fans after his successful spell at the club, and his driving runs from midfield caused problems, resulting in some useful attacking situations and set-pieces for the midlands side. After an early charge at Walsall's keeper, Orient's Martin Rowlands adopted a more conservative role, dropping back to make some vital blocks while also springing occasional attacks and swinging in a couple of dangerous first-half free-kicks.

Rowlands did get a ticking off for a couple of first-half fouls too, but eventually came out on top: Walsall struggled to break Orient down in the second half, Chambers tarnishing his previously excellent passing stats with some overly ambitious longer balls and a backheel that led to an Orient breakaway. Although he may well have saved his new side from further punishment in injury time, falling on keeper Jamie Jones before he could launch the ball towards Walsall's unguarded goal. Shame.
