New keeper eyes first team chance
NEW O's goalkeeper Ryan Allsop has vowed to push Jamie Jones all the way for his number one position between the sticks.
20-year-old stopper Allsop, who spent last season with Millwall, is yet to make his debut at Football League level but feels he is ready to show what he can do.
He joined Orient on a six-month contract this week as Lee Butcher continues to recover from a serious knee injury and is set to make his first appearance in O's colours in Wednesday's friendly at Sutton United.
"I'm very pleased to have joined Orient," he said. "It's a new challenge for me and I'd love to get some games under my belt now.
"I'm here to push Jamie Jones for his place because I want to play as much as he does.
"Although I didn't get to play for the first team at Millwall it was a good experience for me, being on the bench there and around the squad. Now I feel I'm ready to take the next step here."
Allsop came through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion and played for the England U17 side before moving on to Millwall last term.
He also enjoyed a spell in Iceland this summer playing for second tier club Höttur and says that will stand him in good stead as he looks to hit the ground running this term.
"I'm match fit and that spell in Iceland helped with that, playing competitive games.
"I've been training here for a week now and they're all top lads. We have a game at Sutton on Wednesday and I'm looking forward to being involved in that."
