Cuthbert - I'm Raring To Go

24 July 2012

Defender's delight at overcoming hamstring injury for start of pre-season

SCOTT CUTHBERT returned from his hamstring injury to make his first appearance of pre-season when the O's travelled to Ebbsfleet United last Saturday.

The 25-year-old Scotsman missed the back end of last season after tearing a hamstring and faced a battle to get fit again in time for the start of the east Londoners' preparations for the new campaign.

He made it, and after playing 45 minutes alongside Nathan Clarke at Stonebridge Road on Saturday, is looking forward to the fine tuning work ahead of the big kick off.

"It was good to be back out there on Saturday," he said. "I was out for four months so it's always nice to get the legs going.

"I felt a bit stiff after the game, but it was a good 45 minutes.

"It was a hard slog to get back fit. From when I did it at the end of March up until about three weeks ago I wasn't able to run or anything - I was just in the gym strengthening it every day.

"So the last two or three weeks have been tough and that's why I couldn't play at Sutton as I was stiff from all the work I've done.

"But I feel really good now, and I just want to stay strong and get myself back fit now.

"Getting injured on the off season is probably the best time to do it as you're not missing any football. If you can pick an ideal time to get injured that was it and I've come back stronger for it."
