Ex-Huddersfield man becomes summer signing number seven

ORIENT have landed former Huddersfield Town centre back Nathan Clarke on a two-year contract.

28-year-old defender Clarke, brother of ex-O's loan player Tom, left the Terriers this summer after 11 years as a pro with the Yorkshire club and has made east London his next stop.

He comes with great experience having played 300 games for Huddersfield and has a reputation for being a real leader on the pitch.

O's boss Russell Slade said: "We've been chasing Nathan for most of the close season and we're absolutely delighted to have landed him.

"He was well sought after by a lot of football clubs. We've had to be patient and that patience has paid off.

"We conceded 77 goals last year - that was the most I've ever conceded and we needed to do some work on that.

"I feel as if we've improved that unit and we've got competition for places. Nathan is a major signing for us and I'm delighted to bring him in."

Halifax-born Clarke joined Huddersfield at the age of nine and made his way through the ranks at the Galpharm Stadium to become a mainstay in their defence under a number of managers.

He completed a triple century of appearances for his first club, but lost his place under Lee Clark and enjoyed successful loan spells at Colchester United, Oldham Athletic and Bury over the last two seasons.

Nathan came up against his younger brother Tom at Brisbane Road last term when he featured for Oldham and Tom was playing for the O's.

Nathan's kit is available to sponsor. Contact Chris Pope on 0871 310 1886 or via email to take advantage of this great opportunity!
