Manager happy with Sutton workout
ORIENT'S first pre-season friendly may have provided eight goals and plenty of entertainment, but manager Russell Slade was more concerned of the benefits to his players' fitness.
Kevin Lisbie, Ryan Brunt, Dean Cox and Affy Obafemi (2) were all on target as the O's triumphed 5-3 on their return to action at the start of pre-season.
Slade was happy with the goal threat and happier still that all of his players came through the test unscathed.
"It was entertaining," he said. "There were eight goals, some good things and some not so good things defensively.
"It's been a long week already, we trained on the morning of the game too - but everyone has come through it.
"The most important thing is people not picking up injuries. Nobody did and that was important to us.
"What I'm looking for at this stage is fitness, blowing away the cobwebs in the first game. The shape and the structure will come as we play more games."
Orient changed their whole team at half time and gave six second year scholars the chance to shine.
Striker Obafemi responded by netting two goals and Slade was happy with his impact.
He added: "What delighted me was Affy [Obafemi] who came on at the end of last season. He came on, scored a couple of goals and looked really sharp. That was pleasing.
"I was very pleased with the young players who came on for the second half."
