Defender sure results will turn ahead of Shrews clashBEN CHORLEY spoke to leytonorient.com after of the O’s game against Shrewsbury this Saturday.
Ben, your reflections on the one goal defeat at MK Dons....
"It was a really frustrating result, we knew it would be hard and it took us 15 minutes to get to grips with it but after that, I thought we did okay in the first-half and after the break, it looked like we were the home team. Our game plan worked well, we were passing it out from the back, getting the ball into midfield and we created chances. I was speaking to one or two of their players afterwards and they said that they couldn’t believe that we were down towards the bottom of the table."
You refer to the chances, maybe if one of those had been converted, we could have gone on and got something out of the game?
"For sure, if we had taken one of those chances, then it puts the opposition under pressure. As long as it stays 1-0 to them, they can carry on with the game plan that they’ve got but if we go 1-0 up, then things change and they are under a bit of pressure. Moons worked his socks off for us although he didn’t get his reward but on another day, he might have scored two or three."
It was good to see Kevin Lisbie back in action towards the end and he caused a few problems...
"Yes, absolutely, that’s a real positive. Immediately he came on he won a free-kick, he’s clever player and I know as a centre-half, how hard he is to play against, he makes you work hard. He wins the corners, free-kicks and throw- ins and that’s what we need, so it’s a big plus to have him back again."
We’ve had a difficult month results wise, what’s the mood like in the dressing room?
"To be perfectly honest, it’s been really buoyant, even after the Coventry game when the outcome was only settled down to a mistake. We’ve had a lot of chances to take something from the last two home games but have ended up with nothing and after that performance against MK Dons, we have to take heart and confidence. They are up the top every year and are going to be there or thereabouts again this year but we made them work hard for their win and with a bit of luck, we might have taken something out of the game.
"The manager, coaches and players are all pulling together, we know what we are about and how good we are and it will come right. It’s a really fine line between winning and losing and obviously we need to be scoring goals, we all know that. Nobody is blaming anybody in particular and when we do start scoring, things will change because teams will have to start setting-up differently against us and we’ll get the breaks. Sometimes, you just need a bit of luck to go your way but having said that, we did create chances today and that’s encouraging. When you are making chances, you are in games and we are only losing by the odd goal so I’m sure things will turn around."
It’s Shrewsbury on Saturday who are in the relegation zone, what are your thoughts ahead of that match?
"It will be a tough game, it’s a basement battle we need to take the energy we showed in the last hour of the MK Dons game and if we do that, I’m sure we’ll be okay."
