LISBIE: 'We're Attacking Really Well'

21 November 2012

Striker's delight at O's attacking force after they make it seven goals in two games with Portsmouth win

KEVIN LISBIE spoke to leytonorient.com after the O’s 3-2 victory at Portsmouth that earned the men from E10 their fourth consecutive win..

People are seeing you as our talisman now Kevin, with your return from injury coinciding with our winning run.

"Well if I am a good-luck omen, then so be it but it’s not really that. The way we are attacking right now going with 4-4-2 has been excellent. Cooky and Coxy have been unbelievable, the midfielders as well and defensively we’ve done really well and so we’ve been able to build on from all those things."

You missed part of the season with the hamstring problem and during that spell on the sidelines; the team struggled and found goals really difficult to come by...

"Yes, I think the same thing happened last season when I was out injured and we went on a bad run. But I think that it’s my experience which really benefits the team and has helped us to get on this good run. Moons has been superb, he works really hard and I was really happy for him that he got a couple of goals at Carlisle the other day. Apart from me, Cooky and Lloyd [James] have played in the side recently so you are looking at three players, not just me coming back into the team."

You mention David Mooney, you’ve said before how much you like having him alongside you up-front...

"Yes, I thought that we played well together last season although we didn’t score the amount of goals that we would have liked. I understand the way Moons plays, he’s a clever player and he’s been around a while and likes to drop in the hole while I prefer to get behind defenders so I think our partnership works well. But I don’t mind playing with our other two strikers, I suppose that it’s just that I’ve played alongside Moons for a while now and we are used to each other."

We are playing with flair players and creating plenty of chances...

"Yes definitely, look at Cooky, he’s terrific, some of the things he does in training are awesome and quite unbelievable. Another thing that helps us is the amount of experience that we have in the side, people like Rowly and Chors and so we know where and when we can go and play with that flair. Other than the game tonight, which was end-to-end, I think that we have been really diligent in what we’ve been doing and the way we’ve been playing."

After spending so much time on the road in the past week, there must have been plenty of opportunity for team-bonding on those long coach journeys for example?

"Yes, all the team are like my family now! It can be good though because you are with your team mates, you are in hotels together and you get to understand them as people. I think it has helped us to get more understanding as a team both on the field as well as off the field."

So after all that travelling, you must be looking forward to a home game at last?

"It’s been unbelievable and all the team are looking forward to getting back to playing in front of our fans on Saturday. Preston is going to be a massive game for us, the gaffer has said that we are not going to rest on our laurels; we want to climb up the league and get to 42 points hopefully by January and then kick on from there."
