NEWS: LOCSP Coaches Grow Taches

30 November 2012

Community staff members back Movember effort

FOUR coaches from the O's Community Scheme have joined the club's first team players by growing moustaches this month to back the Movember effort.

Howard Gould, Anthony Folkes, Tony Murphy and Neil Brown have all sported hairy top lips in November to help raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK - the Football League's official charity partner for this season.

The taches will go as November becomes December on Saturday, but the trio have enjoyed playing their part in the month - even if they have had to take some banter from their colleagues.

Tony said: "Howard was the inspiration really, getting us together to start growing moustaches this month - my younger brother too who works in an old people's home.

"It's all about raising awareness and as we see a lot of people in our work, we get asked questions so it's good to be able to say why we're doing it and get the message out there."

Anthony added: "We've been ribbed a bit and laughed at a few times but we don't mind as it's for such a great cause!

"This is the first time I've grown a moustache for Movember but I'll definitely take part again next year."

Howard said: "It's particularly relevant for me as my father has suffered prostate problems, so I was keen to get behind Movember.

"Growing the tache has been fun, it's the first time I've done it since I was a teenager.

"It's a great tool for raising awareness as it always raises a comment. At the Preston game Coxy had a joke with us asking 'what's that slug on your lip?' But we replied with at least we can grow one!

"If it gets people talking about the disease it's done its job and there's still time to donate to the O's Movember team!"

As well as the LOCSP quartet, several O's first team players have spent the month growing moustaches. Back their efforts by donating to Prostate Cancer UK here.
