FA Youth Cup Round One

ORIENT'S under-18s stormed through to the second round of the FA Youth Cup with a 7-1 mauling of Bedfordshire side Stotfold on Thursday night.

Affy Obafemi and Rob Nash both netted twice as the young O's avoided a potential banana skin in style and set up a Brisbane Road date with Aldershot in the second round next week.

The result was never in doubt from the moment Obafemi headed Andy Edwards' side into a fifth minute lead and the goals followed at regular intervals.

Orient were already exerting heavy pressure by the time they opened the scoring, with the home keeper powerless to prevent Obafemi from nodding home after Nash delivered a left wing corner.

Two minutes later the O's doubled their lead and it was Obafemi on the mark again, collecting a pass from Harrison Georgiou, holding off his man and producing an unerring finish into the bottom left hand corner.

With 10 minutes played Stotfold briefly got themselves in the contest when a corner from the left was flicked beyond O's keeper Charlie Grainger.

But it was only brief respite for their beleaguered backline as Orient soon restored a two-goal lead.

Midfielder Nash was the goalscorer, arrowing a shot into the top right hand corner from the edge of the box.

The O's were making their superiority count and they added a fourth before the interval, Obafemi turning provider in the 34th minute, getting to the by-line and crossing low for Georgiou to knock into the net from close range.

The game had been won by the break, but Orient kept pressing in the second period and almost made it 5-1 straight from the restart when Obafemi ran through on goal but was denied his hat trick by the keeper.

Orient did make it five on 54 minutes with centre back Sean Grace getting on the scoresheet, being in the right place to finish after Nash's free kick took a nick off the wall and forced a good reaction save from a wrongfooted goalkeeper.

The ball dropped nicely for Grace in front of goal, however, and he couldn't miss from close in.

Edwards then began to make his changes and one of the substitutes, Sinclaire Sandy, was next to hit the back of the net, bundling the ball over the line after a shot from Josh Uzun had been spilled by the home stopper.

Nine minutes from time Nash completed the rout and it was another fine strike from range as the visitors floated a corner to him in space outside the area, and he ignored the defenders closing him down to fire into the bottom left corner from 25 yards.

The scoreline reflected the dominant nature of Orient's performance and they will be looking forward to facing the challenge of Aldershot in round two.
