NEWS: O's Keepers Launch Record Attempt

2 October 2012

Loughton Leisure Centre in world record attempt for 24 hour indoor cycle relay

O'S GOALKEEPERS Lee Butcher and Jamie Jones helped kick off a world record attempt last week as 21 leisure centres around the UK took part in a 24 hour cycling challenge in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people to take part in a 24 hour indoor cycle relay.

Everyone Active, who operate the leisure centres involved in the challenge, were attempting to break this world record as part of a charity fundraising appeal to raise £25,000 for Disability Sport Events.

Anybody was able to take part in this challenge – teams, couples or individuals.  There was a minimum donation of £5 per person to help raise money for the charity and any donations made during the 24 hour period were gratefully received.

The monies raised will fund the Festivals of Sport Events which are held each year.  There are over 11 million disabled people in the UK and yet shocking figures show that only two out of 10 disabled people take part in sport once a week.

The World Record attempt is just one of the things that Everyone Active is doing to raise money for the charity.  September 28 also saw the successful end of a two week UK bike relay challenge which was undertaken by members of the Everyone Active team.  Over 500 colleagues have been travelling 1342 miles in a relay that saw them visit all the contracts that Everyone Active operates.

The relay set off in Bristol on September 14 from Horfield Leisure Centre and finished in Bristol to set off the 24 hour World Record attempt.
