PREVIEW: 'It Depends On The Squad'

2 October 2012

Manager wants options going into hectic month

ORIENT begin a busy October on Tuesday with a trip to in-form Walsall.

The month includes eight games for the east Londoners and manager Russell Slade says he will need to have as many of his squad available as possible.

He is pleased to welcome Anthony Griffith back into his squad for the trip to the Banks's Stadium as they look to bounce back from Saturday's defeat to Doncaster.

"I think it all depends on your squad and your squad numbers," he said.

"The more players you have available for this month the better, the more headaches I have when selecting my team the better - that's the way I see it.

"If players are showing up in training and doing well, you can rest one and put one in really. That's the sort of problem I want this month rather than the 11 picking itself.

"I do think it's good that we do have this game against Walsall so soon after Saturday.

"That was a difficult game and the kind which we've got to learn not to get beat in, and learn quickly from.

"I'm sure we will, we have a positive bunch of players. We move on, we have Walsall and we're looking forward to that game."

Walsall, managed by former O's legend Dean Smith, have got off to a flying start, with five wins and two draws from their first nine matches, so Slade is expecting a test in the Midlands.

"Sometimes teams do get off to a good start, Yeovil did it too," Slade continued.

"Walsall have had a really good start and they've kept it going thus far.

"They have been very strong at home and we're expecting a tough game. We need to put in another really solid performance like we did at Swindon and Crewe."
