ORIENT'S table-topping youth team maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a thumping 4-0 victory over Stevenage on Saturday.

Affy Obafemi is in razor sharp form, and he bagged a hat-trick to take his goal tally to the season to seven from just four games as Orient had the game won by half time.

They made a strong start and Obafemi went close early on, taking the ball around the goalkeeper but finding the side netting with his shot.

Elyon Egbeku also had a shot cleared off the line, so it came as no surprise when Orient moved in front with 28 minutes on the clock.

George Wickings got the goalscoring going, finding the net from inside the box after the O's worked possession well to find space for the youngster.

Aside from a couple of minor scares, Orient were well in control and they soon made it 2-0 thanks to an excellent team goal.

Egbeku and Harrison Georgiou were involved, with the latter playing in Obafemi for the finish - it was Georgiou's sixth assist from four games this term.

The third came five minutes later and Obafemi was the scorer again, bending the ball into the top corner of the goal after he took advantage of some poor Stevenage defending to seize the chance.

The second period started similarly and Orient increased the lead as Obafemi completed his hat trick.

This time the 17-year-old was set up by Josh Uzun, as he slotted in for goal number six for the youth team this term - plus the one he netted for Bishop's Stortford on work experience.

Andy Edwards' side had the three points in the bag, but they couldn't add to the advantage in the final 35 minutes as Stevenage came back into the contest and were unfortunate not to register themselves.

Youth team boss Edwards said: "It was another positive performance and result, and it's encouraging that we're continuing to build on our good results early in the season."
