O's boss nominated for award after March saw the O's pick up 14 points from seven games
ORIENT manager Russell Slade has been nominated for the npower League 1 Manager of the Month Award for March.
The O’s boss, who last week celebrated his third-year anniversary in charge of the O’s, has been recognised after an impressive run of four wins, two draws and only one defeat from seven March fixtures, lifted Orient to within touching distance of the play-offs.
Although an impressive away win at Shrewsbury was secured on March 9 thanks to goals from Mathieu Baudry and Kevin Lisbie, it was in E10 where the O’s showed their best form.
All three games in E10 brought home maximum points with big victories over promotion-chasing Bournemouth and relegation-threatened Carlisle delighting the home crowd.
The good home form continued into April with a home win against Bury making it four home wins on the bounce and 12 victories at E10 all season, a number only bettered by Brentford in League 1.
Also nominated for the award is former O’s player and assistant manager Dean Smith, who enjoyed an undefeated month at Walsall with four draws and two wins as the Saddlers extended their record to only one defeat in 16 matches.
The final nominee is Portsmouth caretaker manager Guy Whittingham. In yet another season of financial turmoil, the former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder has been in interim charge since the departure of Michael Appleton earlier this season to take charge of Blackpool.
After being bottom of the table and 12 points away from safety at the start of March, Whittingham inspired his side to three victories, two draws and only one defeat which came against the O’s.
The winner is set to be announced on Friday (April 12).
