FORMER Orient winger Laurie Cunningham is to be remembered in a commemorative England U-21 fixture against Scotland.
The game will take place at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane on Tuesday, August 13 at 7.30pm and comes as part of Kick It Out’s ‘Season of Action’ campaign.
The legendary O’s winger was the first black player to represent England at Under-21 level and scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Scotland in the first U-21 game between the sides in 1977.
Kick It Out’s season-long initiative replaces the traditional ‘Week of Action’ – normally held in October – and includes the launch of a new free app to help fans report discrimination. There will also be a number of events looking at the origins of ‘Kick It Out’ and projecting the future aims of the movement to help rid football of all forms of discrimination.
The England-Scotland U-21 fixture is also being dedicated to Kick It Out’s work and will provide a platform to remember Cunningham – who died in 1989, aged just 33 – with family members set to attend in his honour.
Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £5 concessions and £20 for a family of four. For full details to click here
