SLADE: 'It's A Wonderful Start'

17 August 2013

ORIENT manager Russell Slade was full of praise for his side’s character and application as they battled to a 1-0 victory against a dogged Stevenage side.

Slade said: “It’s a really great result for us, it keeps the momentum going for. You have to have a certain mind-set when you come to places like Stevenage; you have to be strong both physically and mentally, and we were.

“We held on and there was only one scary moment and incidentally it was Lis (Kevin Lisbie) in the action again when he managed to knock the ball on to the crossbar and out from a corner. In terms of creating chances though I thought we were the better team and you have to keep going and dig in against Graham Westley’s teams.

“It’s a wonderful start for us though it has only been three games but the momentum and spirit of the camp is very, very good and they all work very hard for each other.”
