O's defenders visit children in Chingford

ORIENT players Mathieu Baudry and Gary Sawyer showed up at the Goals football centre in Chingford recently to help with handing out awards, talking about their football experiences whilst also taking part in some fun games.

“It was great to have the first team boys here,” said Nicola Waxler, Leyton Orient Community Sport Programme coach.

“It really puts the icing on the cake and the kids love it when they join in and then asking them questions.”

The players met and played along with each of the three age groups attending, answering questions about fitness, scoring goals and who is the toughest opponent they have faced and then helped out by presenting certificates and medals to all concerned.

Gary Sawyer enjoyed his visit so much that he is keen visit the centre again.

“It’s good fun. I enjoy doing these types of things. Some of the kids skills are actually impressive and some of the questions are quite funny. I hope to get back again later in the year.” said Sawyer.

Each child also received two complimentary tickets for a Leyton Orient home game.

“I can’t wait, it will be my first ever football match!” said Saeed, aged 11.
