SLADE: 'We Stuck To The Plan'

27 February 2013

Orient manager pleased with away performance

ORIENT manager Russell Slade was pleased with a point after a determined performance at title-chasing Sheffield United.

Following a week to forget for the O’s manager, his side showed great character and a well-executed game plan, and in the end could have easily journeyed back to London with all three points after Shaun Batt, Romain Vincelot and David Mooney all had great chances to win it.

Slade said: “It was a tight game, we came with a game plan and even though we played with only the one striker we still wanted to create chances and we did that. We were very much 4-3-3 when we were going forwards and I thought we created some really good openings.

“You can’t play that shape every week but you have to come with a game plan, you need a focus and to know what you’re doing and individuals did their jobs well tonight."

Orient moved the ball with purpose and were resilient in defence, looking like a different side to the one that lost at home to Crawley three days previously, and it was just the response Slade wanted from his players.

He continued: “We weren’t at our best for obvious reasons really against Crawley, but we got the response that I wanted on Saturday tonight and that’s all I can ask for.

“In some ways I wish we could play the teams in the top six every week and then I think we might be alright.”
