COOK: 'We Should Have Won'

24 January 2013

O's winger disappointed with derby draw

DESPITE scoring a late equaliser to snatch at point at Brentford on Tuesday night, Orient winger Lee Cook came away from Griffin Park disappointed that his side didn’t take home all three.

After dominating long periods of the second half, Cook popped up in the 87th minute to rescue a point with his fifth goal of the season. However given the amount of chances The O’s created, he felt they did enough to win the game.

“We should have won. We were disappointed at half-time as we thought we outplayed them and out passed them. They’ve had two corners and they’ve scored from both, the gaffer went mad at half time and said we need to defend them better as it meant all our good play happens for nothing so it was important we put that right second half. I know they’ve had a man sent off but I  think we would have got something out of the game anyway.

“We scored two great strikes, Martin’s hit a good free kick and I’ve hit a decent strike second half but over the play we’ve had crosses, headers at goal, shots over the goal which we should have scored and we’ve missed a penalty, so to be fair we are all a bit disappointed in there but we’ve got to take the performance and not the result into Saturday.

“Before the game we came here to win tonight, we were missing a couple still but we had the bulk of the side that went on a good run and there’s a confidence when everyone is playing and we felt we could win tonight. We are a bit disappointed with a point but as long as we win our home game Saturday then it’s a good point.”

Tuesday night’s derby was already Orient’s seventh game of 2013, but Cook is relishing the games coming thick and fast.

“With this division, I’ve never known anything like it, a lot of my pals are all on holiday in the Championship on training camps abroad and we are Saturday then Tuesday every week. But it’s what you want do, you want to be playing football. I’ve had some bad injuries in my career so now I’m playing week in, week out, I love it.

“We’ve got to take that performance into Saturday because the camp is confident, so bring on Notts County.”
