ROWLANDS: "We Can Push On"

25 January 2013

Midfielder gives his reaction to signing a new contract

MARTIN Rowlands has spoken of his desire to help the club challenge for both silverware and promotion after this morning signing a new contract to keep him at the Matchroom Stadium until the end of the season.

The midfielder along with his former QPR team-mate Lee Cook both extended their stay at the club, and the former Republic of Ireland international is pleased at the way things have worked out.

“I’m very happy to get it sorted, we’ve been talking for the last two or three weeks now, so I’m glad to get it done and dusted, and hopefully we can push on now and have a go at the play-offs.

“Getting to my age now you just want to play week in, week out and enjoy your football that’s exactly what’s happened here. I’ve enjoyed every minute of being here, there’s a good bunch of lads, the staff are really good and it’s a good club so I’m hopeful that can continue from now until the end of the season and let’s see where we go from there.”

Rowlands has played 27 games for the club since arriving in August and the 33-year-old believe it’s a great time to be an O’s player.

“It’s a really good time to be here, we’ve got ourselves to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final, we’ve got two tough legs now against Southend, but hopefully we can do well in them and we back ourselves to get to Wembley and give ourselves, the club, staff and most importantly the fans a big day out for the club.

“In the league too we’ve not lost many recently. There’s three and a half months, we’ve got a lot of games left so let’s see how we can push on.

“We’re looking forward to the game at home on Saturday, we’ve got Saturday then Tuesday back-to-back home games so hopefully we can get some points out of that and start another run to hopefully go unbeaten for a long time.”
