SLADE: 'We Were Excellent'

12 January 2013

O's deserved maximum points against Crewe - boss

RUSSELL SLADE felt Orient deserved maximum points for their performance against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

The O's had to settle for a point after Byron Moore's goal cancelled out Lee Cook's opener, but the O's boss said it could have been so much more.

He said: "We couldn't have done any more to win it, apart from putting the ball in the back of the net.

"I thought we were excellent in all areas. We reduced them to just a couple of opportunities and we created four or five fantastic chances, and hit the woodwork twice.

"The football and the creation in the first half deserved more goals. Unfortunately we didn't get that and we've drawn a football match. We don't draw too many, but we've drawn one today which I think we should have won."

Slade called upon a new strike partnership for the visit of the Railwaymen, which Charlie MacDonald partnering David Mooney and the manager was happy with the contribution of his debutant.

He added: "Dave's in great form, that's the pleasing thing. The other pleasing thing was that the spirit of the team was excellent, on the back of two really difficult games we've gone full throttle again today and should have got the win.

"Charlie too, considering he hadn't started a first team game since October 23 did extremely well for us today and was unlucky when he hit the post."
